Flora

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Flora is a private journaling app. This policy explains how your data is handled. Your journal stays in the folder you choose. We do not receive your journal.

What data Flora collects

Flora does not collect any personal data.

There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no servers, and no analytics. We have no way to identify you, and we never receive any information about you or your journal.

Where your data lives

Your journal entries are stored as Markdown files, with attached photos saved as separate files. App preferences are stored on your device. You choose the journal folder:

  • On your iPhone/iPad — in the app's local storage or a folder you choose
  • In your iCloud — if you select an iCloud folder, Apple syncs the files across your devices using your personal iCloud account. We never have access to this data.

When you create a journal, Flora uses its iCloud folder when iCloud is available. Otherwise, it uses a local folder. You can also open a folder of your choice.

Device permissions

Flora requests optional access to device features to show relevant information in your journal. The integrations read their source data; they do not change your Health, Calendar, Photos, or Music Library records.

PermissionWhat it's used for
HealthDisplays your daily steps, sleep, and activity in the journal metrics bar
CalendarShows today's events alongside your journal entries
PhotosLets you attach photos to journal entries; photos are saved locally
Music LibraryShows songs you listened to today
NotificationsSends optional daily journaling reminders you configure

Integration data is processed on your device and is not sent to us. Add metrics to Markdown is off by default for new settings in version 1.0 (2); an existing saved choice is retained. If you enable it, Health metrics can be written into the journal files. Health-related entries saved in the journal also become part of those files. If your journal folder is in iCloud, Apple can sync those files. Turning off this setting does not remove information already saved in your journal.

You can deny optional permissions and still write journal entries. To revoke access, open iOS Settings, find Flora's permissions, and turn off the relevant access. Health permissions can also be managed in the Health app.

Retention and deletion

Journal files remain in your chosen folder until you delete them. You can remove entries and attachments in Flora or manage the journal folder in the Files app. Deleting Flora may leave files in iCloud or another folder you selected. To remove those files, delete them from that folder too. Apple controls iCloud synchronization, backups, and recovery of deleted files.

We have no server copy of your journal and no account to delete.

On-device intelligence

Optional Apple Intelligence features process journal information on your device. Flora has no OpenAI chat feature and does not send journal entries to an external AI service. Saved exports from the retired chat feature remain in your chosen folder. The app removes its obsolete OpenAI credential from secure storage after updating.

Third-party services

Flora uses one optional third-party service:

  • DuckDuckGo Favicon Service — When you add a company page with a URL, Flora fetches that company's icon from DuckDuckGo's public favicon service (icons.duckduckgo.com). Only the domain name is sent. No personal data is included.

Children's privacy

Flora does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top and note the changes in the app's release notes.
